Do you have a lot of problems at clinic - with difficult clients?
No, not really - if you consider how unwell so many people are when they start in treatment. We try to provide methadone in a clinical context - and to deal with clients the same way that you might in a blood pressure or diabetic clinic.
We treat clients respectfully - and expect the same in return. We provide reasonable times when they may attend. We try to not keep them waiting too long - and to listen to their concerns as we are able. We have a treatment contract that lays out the expectations for safe and proper behavior in clinic - and we hold clients to their agreement.
We deal every day with a lot of clients who by the nature of their illness - and by that I mean the addiction - have tended to live chaotic lives. Part of recovery from addiction is to return some structure and responsibility into everyday life.
So those enrolled in our program are expected to attend clinic twice weekly, to conduct themselves in a respectful manner while in the pharmacy and clinic areas - to not be loud, disruptive or threatening in any manner. |
