Does everyone who takes Opiate drugs become Addicted?
No, opiate addiction does not occur in all persons who are prescribed opiate drugs. Opiate dependence and addiction are potential complications that will occur in a subgroup of those who are prescribed or who take these medications.

About one in ten persons seem at particular risk of these complications. Once the complication of addiction has occurred, specific measures are indicated.

“When I look back, I think I was addicted from the first time I used.

Or maybe I was an addict before I started to use. They say it can be genetic. Maybe I just hadn’t found the right drug yet.”

Any person taking an opiate drug without close professional monitoring - or for any reason of pleasure or the calming of nerves - is at high risk of opiate addiction.
