Narcotic is another name for the opiate group of drugs. Narcotic drugs are derived from the opium poppy. Opiate drugs all work by attaching themselves to natural opiate receptors in your brain. Examples of opiate drugs are oxycodone, morphine or heroin.
Legal authorities may also use the word Narcotic to refer to other drugs that are not derived from the opium poppy, but which are illegal to possess. |
