SupportNet offers this page for discussion of problems of addiction to prescription medications.

I've known not to have a first drink for twelve years. But nobody told me not to take a prescription for oxycocet from my doctor. I hurt my back at work - and he gave me that stuff. Never once said that I could get addicted - and he knew how alcohol nearly killed me - like it did my dad. Every time I tried to stop - the pain got worse - and the good ol doc upped my script. I knew that hell could exist in a bottle. But I didn't know they had managed to also squeeze it into those little pills.

Not all dope is found on the streets. Walk in clinics are a slippery place for me to be. If you need to go - take a friend.

I had never thought of my self as addicted. Everything I had in my prescription drawer was prescribed by a doctor. But I had a pill for everything - every ache - every anxiety - to sleep - wake and treat the withdrawal. Its obvious to me now - but I had no idea what I was doing at the time. Thank you Brentwood!
